1000 Days

When you record stats like I do, little milestones periodically show up in the tables and charts. Today, I noticed one I quite like: I have been recording my bike rides for the past 1000 days.

I have been on the bike 54.6% of the days I've tracked, averaged 24.22 miles for ride length and that is like riding 13.23 miles every day!

Out of curiosity, I've figured my cycling expenses during this time frame are approximately .68 cents per mile which is about $9 every day. But wouldn't you know it, there is more gear I'd like! Guess I just have to ride more =)

Btw, I'm not complaining about expenses, I just find it interesting. I geared up from scratch starting in July/'06 having never had a 'bike shop' bike before or a helmet! The fun factor and health benefits are priceless, don't you think?

That's some good stats. Cycling more than 50% over 1000 days is superb. As for cost, I also started from scratch last year and I don't dare add up what I've spent. And I can't help look at this seasons new bikes.

As always love the stats - cycling is soooo expensive. Especially once you get through a few seasons - the bike starts needing replacement things and you begin to appreciate the finer stuff like top-end rims and specialty bikes - right now I need 2 new bikes and a set of rims - ha ha

I think I might have told you this, but we have a friend who is a fantastic time triallist so I asked him one day for some training tips/advice and he said "Ride More Miles", he doesnt keep a diary journal or anything, has no coach, he just gets out and does it......

Me..I love stats and write a quick journal which has been rather empty since April 11th when I broke my collarbone and two ribs...now that is a stat I sont want to collect....

Biking is expensive, but so is life.....or we can make it as cheap as possible......

I want new cycling clothes..a nice matching kit......but have been holding off...too expensive....we will see....

\Keep up the stat counting...I love it!

Wow, amazing stats!
It's prompting me into recording detail like that just to see how things are going for me.

Great stas Sarah. It's a lways a little intriguing to see what things are actually costing financially but some things are worth their weight in gold. Such as riding a bicycle, it's an activity that really cannot have a set price connected to it.

I'd be scared out of my mind to add up my actual expenses by the way. :)

Maybe do the car calculation as well. I bet cycling comes still out as the winner and might serve as a great justification to buy more stuff? LOL

The car calculation is a good one Groover. My mate is looking at buying a Pinerello frame which is £2700. It seems a ridiculous amount to pay for an amateur but he gave up owning a car last year which was costing him hundreds a month to run so that's how he justifies it. Others spend £1000s on holidays. I say go for it if you can afford it.
